Coronavirus (COVID-19) and U of T Bookstore's Response

Dear Customers,

With Ontario remaining in lockdown as the new semester starts, we want to assure you that we are still here to serve you. Our physical stores are closed for in-person shopping, but our online store is open 24/7 at uoftbookstore.com. We are offering Canada-wide and international shipping, as well as pickups (by appointment only) at our St. George, Mississauga and Scarborough locations. Shipping within Canada is free on orders over $100 before tax.

If you would like to pick up your order, you MUST make an appointment. The steps to do so are as follows:

  1. Select the “Pickup” option at checkout in our online store.
  2. Wait for us to contact you. When your order has been processed, we will send you an email with a scheduling link to book your pickup appointment.
  3. Arrive at the location you have selected at the scheduled time. Ensure that you have your order number and a piece of photo ID with you and that you are wearing a mask or face covering.

Dear Customers,

As Toronto and Peel enter lockdown, our St. George, Scarborough and Mississauga stores will be closed to the public effective Sunday, November 22nd until further notice. Our online store will remain open 24/7 at uoftbookstore.com, and we continue to ship Canada-wide and internationally. Curbside pickup will be available in special circumstances, such as for thesis printing and orders that were placed before the new mandates. Please contact weborders@uoftbookstore.com or call 416-640-7900 to speak to our team.

With the Winter 2021 term right around the corner, we want to assure students and faculty alike that we are still able to support your course material needs at full capacity. However, we encourage faculty members to place their orders as soon as possible so that students may shop early and receive any physical materials in the mail before the term begins.

As the Canadian situation around COVID-19 evolves, we at the University of Toronto Bookstore have continued to adapt our business operations to follow the recommendations of the Canadian government and health officials. The health and safety of our customers, employees, and community are our top priority at all times.

Following the provincial government's announcement yesterday regarding mandatory non-essential business closures in Ontario, we will unfortunately be required to temporarily cease operations at the end of the business day today. We will remain closed until further notice.

As a result of this government-mandated closure, we will be unable to fulfill any online orders placed after today, with the exception of eBooks, access codes for digital course materials, and the digital version of Toronto Notes. Our team is working hard today to fulfill as many orders as possible that have already been placed or that are placed during the day today.

Our team will continue to be available to answer your questions during this closure period.

As mentioned in our note last week, the health, safety and well-being of our customers and employees is the University of Toronto Bookstore’s top priority, and we are following the lead of Canadian public health authorities at this important time. Following the University of Toronto's announcement regarding the closure of buildings on campus, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close all of our stores as of the end of the business day today.

We are committed to continuing to meet our community's needs during this challenging time, and will be open online, fulfilling all orders at www.uoftbookstore.com.

We are also offering free shipping Canada-wide to ensure that our U of T community and beyond can continue to receive the materials and supplies they might need.

With growing global concerns around COVID-19 ("coronavirus"), I wanted to provide you with an update on our response to date and our commitment to you moving forward. The health, safety and well-being of our customers and employees is the University of Toronto Bookstore’s top priority and we are following the lead of Canadian public health authorities at this important time. We are committed to providing a comfortable and safe shopping experience at each of our retail locations, and are strengthening our online shopping to facilitate our customers’ need to shop from home.

First and foremost, I want to assure our customers that we are taking all appropriate measures to ensure our retail locations are safe and that we have existing measures in place to ensure they stay that way. We have stepped up our cleaning and sanitation of our stores throughout the day. We continue to provide hand sanitizer stations at our entrances. While the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the current public health risk associated with coronavirus as low, we will continue to monitor for developments very closely.

To protect yourself and others, we ask that our Team Members and anyone who is feeling unwell refrain from visiting us so that together we can ensure a safe and comfortable experience for everyone. We are also offering $3 flat rate shipping Canada-wide to ensure that our U of T community and beyond can continue to receive the materials and supplies they might need.

Again, we continue to monitor this situation closely and will provide ongoing updates as needed. At present, our store hours remain unchanged, however we will continuously assess our customer needs and will inform you if this changes.
