Products Purchased In-Store & Online

All items being returned must be unused, unopened and in their original selling condition. Refunds or exchanges of general merchandise can be made within 30 days of original date of purchase. Refunds or exchanges of textbooks & course materials; or medical textbooks & medical reference can be made within 14 days of original date of purchase. Original receipt is required for all returns & exchanges. All Refunds will be issued in the original form of payment. All clearance items are finale sale.


UofT Bookstore reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of certain merchandise at any time and for any reason.

UofT Bookstore has the right to request valid identification prior to accepting merchandise for a return.

The following conditions do not allow for a return / exchange:

General Books

  • Print on Demand titles
  • Test prep / exam guides
  • Special / custom orders

Technology Shop

  • Opened technology hardware / software
  • Software licenses
  • Headphones / earbuds
  • Cell phones are subject to the return policy of the phone carrier

Textbooks and Course Materials

  • New textbooks that have been marked, spine-cracked, worn, highlighted, corners bent, and generally used are non-returnable, texts must be in perfect condition
  • Open packages including open shrink-wrapped packages are non-returnable – shrink-wrapped textbooks must be in sealed, original packaging
  • Custom courseware. All Custom Books & Custom Course Materials including lab manuals, course packs, custom readers, custom texts, and Print-on-Demand titles are Final Sale & Non refundable
  • E-books are final sale and non-returnable
  • Access codes are final sale and non-returnable
  • Spiral bound material are final sale and non-returnable
  • New textbooks that have been marked, spine-cracked, worn, highlighted, corners bent, and generally used are non-returnable, texts must be in perfect condition

All course materials are non-returnable if purchased 6 weeks after the start of Fall and Winter terms or 3 weeks after the start of Summer F, S, and Y terms.

Products Purchased Online

All online orders follow the in-store return / exchange policy.

The start day of the return / exchange period for all online orders is the day the package was received, according to our shipping courier.

We ship Canadian and US orders via UPS, and international orders via DHL. All packages require signature upon delivery, and UPS / DHL may hold packages at the closest station if customers are not available for signature upon delivery. Customers will receive a UPS / DHL tracking number via email after the online order is processed. International order customers are responsible to pay for any custom fees; DHL will contact customers for custom fees payment.

Online customers seeking a return or exchange must deliver the items back to the UofT Bookstore either by shipping courier or by visiting the store. For returns / exchanges via shipping, the send to address is located on the top left hand corner of the invoice which the customer receives with their shipment. The return package must be shipped out before the last day of return / exchange period in order to qualify for a refund or exchange. The University of Toronto Bookstore is not able to refund the initial shipping charges for the order, and the shipping charges to return the product(s) will be the responsibility of the customer.

All return shipments are subject to inspection. University of Toronto Bookstore will charge a 20% restocking fee for the following reasons: the product is not in original condition, the shipped date of the return package was beyond the period allowed for returns / exchanges, packages are returned to us due to customers not being available to accept the package, and orders not picked up for over 2 weeks without notice.

The initial pickup window lasts for 2 weeks without a charge. Pickup orders will be held for up to 3 months. To get a refund on a cancelled order please visit us in store or contact us at (416) 640-7900 x5850.

Holiday Gift Purchases

Holiday purchases of clothing / gift product made between November 1st and December 24th may be returned / exchanged until January 17th of the following year. An original receipt is required. University of Toronto Bookstore reserves the right to reject any return / exchange.
